Isahakyan House Museum

News and events »

During the Russian-Turkish war, the Isahakyan family were displaced from their home in the historic Armenian city, Bayazet, and settled in Alexandrapol. In 1829, on an attractive corner on Generalskaya Street (Varpetats), Avetik Isahakyan’s grandfather built a house for two of his sons. The Armenian lyric poet, author, and public activist would later become known for his talent in writing from the soul. For several years this house was left half reconstructed until the 30th of October. In October of 2002, efforts from the government of Armenia along with financial support from the Gyumri municipality brought the house museum of the great writer back to life. The relics of the writer found their place in the halls of the museum and tell the story of his artistic journey. The house of the great writer became a pilgrimage site for our fellow citizens and many visitors.
